Dehydration

Dehydration occurs commonly with childhood illness.  The smaller the child, the more quickly it can occur.  It is important to encourage your child to take in plenty of fluids when he is sick.

Symptoms of dehydration include:

  • Dryness of the mucous membranes in the mouth
  • Absence of tears
  • No urine output in 10-12 hours
  • Listlessness or weakness

If your child has a moist mouth and is urinating, dehydration is unlikely.

If you are concerned that your child is dehydrated and attempts to encourage fluid intake have failed, call our office or make an appointment online.
