Eczema

Eczema is a common skin problem that can be very mild to severe.

Symptoms include:

  • Dry skin
  • Red rash that is itchy
  • Common areas are face, elbows, knees, wrists, and ankles, but it can appear anywhere
  • Rash can be weepy and crust over

Treatment includes the following:

  • Avoid anything that you know aggravates your child’s eczema.  This may include scented soaps/detergents, non-cotton fabrics, and certain foods.
  • Moisturize the skin with a thick, fragrance-free, dye-free lotion
  • Keep nails cut short to minimize scratching

Call or make an appointment online if you are concerned that your child has eczema and these measures are not working.  Your child may need prescription medications to help control itching and decrease inflammation.
