Strep Throat

Strep throat is caused by a bacterial infection and needs to be treated with antibiotics.  Antibiotics will not be called in.  We must examine your child in the office.

Symptoms of Strep throat include:

  • Painful swallowing
  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Neck pain
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Rash
  • Headache
  • Children with strep throat do not typically have runny nose or congestion

When your child is seen in the office, a throat swab may be needed to ensure the correct diagnosis.

Antibiotics are prescribed to treat strep throat.  It is very important that the prescription be taken as directed for the full 10 days in order to prevent relapse and complications.

Antibiotics will not be called in.  Your child must be examined for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

Call or make an appointment online if:

  • You are concerned your child has strep throat
  • Your child is on antibiotics for strep throat and continues to have fever after 48 hours
